Preliminary Results of Noninvasive Ocular Rigidity in Diabetic Retinopathy Using Optical Coherence Tomography

چکیده
The pathologic mechanism of diabetic retinopathy is directly related to the underlying hyperglycemia associated with diabetes. Hyperglycemia causes non-enzymatic cross-linking collagen fibrils which contributes mechanistically tissue stiffening. However, investigations on retinopathy-associated alteration in ocular biomechanics remain scarce, especially living human eyes. Ocular rigidity classically defined as a measure change intraocular pressure produced by volume. We recently implemented an approach for direct in-vivo non-invasive estimate using optical coherence tomography, allowing evaluation biomechanical behavior eyes retinopathy. Our preliminary results showed that exhibited higher and scleral stiffness compared normal controls, may possibly be attributed hyperglycemia-induced tissues. Knowledge changes will equip us new quantitative tools identify diagnostic markers

Noninvasive detection of microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy by swept-source optical coherence tomography
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES A method of identifying retinal vascular microaneurysms (MAs) in nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). PATIENTS AND METHODS SS-OCT images were acquired in 17 eyes with NPDR using prototype SS-OCT device and fluorescein angiography (FA) images were obtained simultaneously. MAs identified on SS-OCT slabs ...

PURPOSE To analyze the vitreoretinal interface in diabetic eyes using 3-dimensional wide-field volumes acquired using high-speed, long-wavelength swept-source optical coherence tomography (SSOCT). DESIGN Prospective cross-sectional study. METHODS Fifty-six diabetic patients (88 eyes) and 11 healthy nondiabetic controls (22 eyes) were recruited. Up to 8 SSOCT volumes were acquired for each e...
متن کاملAutomated Quantification of Capillary Nonperfusion Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Diabetic Retinopathy.
IMPORTANCE Macular ischemia is a key feature of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Quantification of macular ischemia has potential as a biomarker for DR. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility of automated quantification of capillary nonperfusion as a potential sign of macular ischemia using optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS An observational study condu...
متن کاملOcular Rigidity and Outflow Facility in Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
PURPOSE To compare ocular rigidity (OR) and outflow facility (C) in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and control subjects. METHODS Twenty-four patients with NPDR (NPDR group) and 24 controls (control group) undergoing cataract surgery were enrolled. NPDR group was further divided into patients with mild NPDR (NPDR1-group) and patients with moderate and/or severe NPDR...
متن کاملQuantifying Microvascular Density and Morphology in Diabetic Retinopathy Using Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography
PURPOSE To quantify changes in retinal microvasculature in diabetic retinopathy (DR) by using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography angiography (SD-OCTA). METHODS Retrospective, cross-sectional, observational study of healthy and diabetic adult subjects with and without DR. Retinal microvascular changes were assessed by using SD-OCTA images and an intensity-based optical microangiograp...
